Carlsberg UK and Mahou-San Miguel of Spain debut a new 4.4% ABV beer especially for the outdoor occasions, such as barbecues, al fresco dining and live music events. Fresca, the companies say, is a sunshine lager that is crisp, refreshing and best served chilled with a slice of lime.
To compliment the bright taste attributes of the beverage, the companies chose clear labels from Spear. But the brand wasn’t content with flat-printed labels, it wanted a similar feel to silk-screened, applied ceramic labeling.
Spear collaborated with its ink supplier to develop a soft-touch matte varnish specifically for this project. This is used in combination with a coarse touch tactile varnish to create a contoured effect. Then, Spear used UV inks to create standout visual contrast on the bottle. The label supplier also reduced costs by employing an innovative thin material for a wider front label, enhancing the premium “no-label” look.
