For 3C! Packaging, an independent privately-owned pharmaceutical packaging solutions company specializing in the design and manufacture of custom folding cartons, printed literature, inserts and outserts, labels and foils and unit dose applications, Pharma Expo Las Vegas will be the West Coast debut of its sophisticated new coating for coding applications.
Clear Code is a next-generation system employing an industrial CO2 laser, which works with a clear coating by causing a color change reaction to produce a positive contrast image. The result is enhanced clarity and contrast. In just its first year of commercial availability, successes with several prominent customers have led 3C! Packaging to begin testing, also successfully, Clear Code printing on additional substrates, including extended content labels (ECLs) on laminated poly, as well as Tyvek and other medical papers – a substance particularly relevant to the medical device industry that has faced challenges with traditional laser printing techniques, even to the extent of compromising products.
The Clear Code process offers two significant improvements over traditional coding and competing clear laser etching applications. First, Clear Code avoids marking techniques that require printed dark blocks to decode laser etched information. Second, the process successfully achieves an especially accurate, opaque image.
As such, the Clear Code process requires no inks, ribbons, applicators or other costly consumables, simplifying the process and making it more cost-effective and eco-friendly than current technologies that utilize hazardous production line materials
“Clear Code creates more attractive and functional packaging,” said Joey Rae Elphick, VP of Marketing & Business Development at 3C! Packaging. “For the first time, the technology will add consistency, quality and reliability to clear code laser etching techniques.”
At Pharma Expo, demonstrations of Clear Code will be performed utilizing an Intelli-Code Carton Code & Inspection System from equipment manufacturer Omega Design Corporation of Exton, PA. Intelli-Code employs an integrated vision system to verify printed data and connectivity to any Serialization Data Management System – meaning that the demonstrations at Pharma Expo will be verifiable on the spot. The Clear Code demos will be produced on printers from Domino Amjet, a prominent supplier of premium industrial printers and equipment who, in addition to its presence at 3C’s booth, will have Clear Code technology running on other equipment at Pack/Pharma Expo.
